CHCT are delighted to announce our third grant, this time from the Edinburgh University ‘micro-grant’ scheme, for further work to repair the erosion on top of the hill.
On 26 September, the community team administering the grants wrote to tell us they had approved our £446 application, noting that, “Competition for our funds has become greater but the panel felt your project could have very high positive social impact.”
In our application we explained, “Re-seeding 500+sqm will improve the appearance, accessibility, and amenity of the key areas of the park around the National Monument. It will reduce the hazard for visitors in wet weather, and will reduce the risk of further deterioration and erosion of topsoil. Re-establishment of grass areas will also re-green the area and improve the ecology of the Hill.”
We are hoping that the re-seeding can be completed by 14 October. This will depend on the availability of volunteers etc. After that date, the weather is likely to be too cold for seeding, and the work would have to be delayed until April or May 2025. Obviously we’ would like’d prefer to avoid that.
